If you are driving from Christchurch or the glacier region, you need to drive through Greymouth
turning to cross over the Grey River Bridge. Turn right off the bridge heading towards Punakaiki and Westport. Your 14kms starts from now. You will pass through two small villages, Runanga and then Rapahoe. Just after Rapahoe you hit the coastal section of the drive – follow for approximately
4kms. Head up the hill with Strongman Mine Memorial and Lookout at the top of the hill. Start your descent, SLOW DOWN and cross the Nine Mile Creek bridge (make sure you indicate that you are turning!), Breakers is directly on your left as soon as you cross the little bridge.

If you cross Nine Mile creek bridge you have gone too far
Coming from Abel Tasman and Marlborough regions, ensure you stay on SH6 to come down the Great Coast Road, the coastal scenic route Westport to Greymouth.
From Punakaiki and the Pancake Rocks we are a further 30kms to the south.
You’ll pass through Barrytown and then look out for small creek bridges, 14 mile, 13 mile and 10 mile (one lane bridge).
Watch for the Strongman Mine Memorial and Lookout sign. Slow down and indicate as Breakers is just along on your right hand side.
If you cross the Nine Mile creek bridge you have gone too far.
