Private Beach Access
Jan and Stephen often refer to Breakers as their Sense of Place. Perched above the beachfront with expansive views across the Tasman Sea and towards the Paparoa ranges, Breakers offers guests a rare sense of space, privacy, and connection to the wild West Coast landscape.
A private track leads directly from the property down to Nine Mile Beach. This secluded stretch of coastline invites slow walks alongside the rolling surf, where visitors sometimes discover pieces of jade, known to Māori as pounamu, washed gently ashore. At the base of the track, Nine Mile Creek flows to the sea as a small waterfall, and when the tide recedes, the rock pools reveal starfish, mussels, and the quiet treasures of the shoreline.
Stargazing
Base yourself at Breakers and experience some of the West Coast's most spectacular night skies. Far from light pollution, our coastal location offers excellent conditions for viewing the Milky Way, constellations, and celestial events year-round.
Step outside and look up in wonder at the stars above. Meander down the private track to the beach, where the night sky meets the Tasman Sea and the sea stacks create their own dramatic silhouettes. Time it with the tides and you may even catch the magic of blue hour from the rock pools, with sea stars below and the first stars appearing above.
For guests wanting a closer look, binoculars are available to use during your stay. Jan and Stephen are always happy to share local stargazing tips, recommend the best viewing locations, and help you make the most of clear West Coast evenings.

Rockpools & Sea Stars
Just a short walk from Breakers, the rocky shoreline at Mussel Point reveals a fascinating world shaped by the tides. As the sea retreats, pools of crystal-clear water are left behind among the sculpted sandstone, creating a habitat for sea stars, mussels and other marine life.
Guests often spend hours exploring the rock pools, searching for colourful sea stars and discovering the small creatures that thrive along this wild stretch of coast.
The constantly changing landscape offers something different with every visit, from dramatic sunsets and crashing waves to peaceful moments spent observing the shoreline's hidden treasures.
With direct access to Nine Mile Beach and Mussel Point, Breakers provides the perfect base for experiencing one of the West Coast's most unique coastal environments.

Sunsets
As the day draws to a close, Breakers offers front-row seats to one of the West Coast's most spectacular natural displays.
Watch the sun sink into the Tasman Sea as the sky transforms through shades of gold, orange, pink and deep crimson.
Every evening is different. Some nights bring calm reflections across the sea, while others deliver dramatic cloud formations illuminated by the fading light. From the comfort of your room, the gardens, or the beachfront below, sunset is a moment worth slowing down for.
With expansive coastal views and uninterrupted western horizons, Breakers provides the perfect setting to experience the legendary sunsets of Te Tai Poutini (West Coast).
