At Breakers Boutique Accommodation, our connection to the West Coast goes far beyond offering luxury accommodation overlooking the Tasman Sea.

Being part of this region means caring for the people, wildlife, and organisations that help make Te Tai o Poutini such a special place to call home.

As locals ourselves, we believe in giving back wherever we can and supporting the community that continues to support us.

Supporting the West Coast Penguin Trust

Nine Mile Beach is home to the little blue penguins, with the coastline surrounding Breakers serving as an important nesting area for these remarkable birds. Guests are often surprised to learn that penguins can sometimes be spotted returning ashore at dusk after spending the day out at sea.

Breakers proudly supports the West Coast Penguin Trust through contributions from every room night booking, helping assist ongoing conservation efforts and stoat trapping programmes that protect native birdlife along our coastline.

These small contributions help ensure future generations can continue to enjoy the wildlife and natural beauty that make the West Coast so unique.

Supporting the SPCA

Animals have always been close to our hearts at Breakers. Alongside our support for the Penguin Trust, we also donate from every room night booking to our local SPCA.

We believe every animal deserves care, safety, and compassion, and we are proud to contribute toward the incredible work the SPCA does throughout our community.

Supporting Local Trusts & Community Organisations

Our support also extends to several other organisations across the West Coast region, including:

• Paparoa Wildlife Trust

• Life Education Trust West Coast

• Westland Heritage Park

Stephen also donates time and photography to assist with community marketing initiatives and local promotion where possible.

More Than Just Accommodation

For us, being a boutique accommodation provider is not simply about offering a beautiful place to stay. It is about creating meaningful connections to this region, its people, and the environment that surrounds us.

When guests stay at Breakers, they are also helping contribute to the wellbeing of the wider West Coast community and supporting organisations working hard to protect wildlife, educate future generations, and preserve local heritage.

We are incredibly grateful to be part of such a special community and look forward to continuing to support the people and organisations that help make the West Coast extraordinary.
